Maplewood Richmond Heights head football coach Brandon Gregory and senior defensive end Marcus Taylor were honored by the Demetrious Johnson Charitable Foundation during an awards banquet on Feb. 27.

Gregory was named the 2010 coach of the year by the foundation, which considers nominations across the St. Louis metro area. In his first year as head coach, Gregory coached the Blue Devils to a 14-1 record that ended in the Missouri Class 2 state championship game.

Taylor was selected to the Fab 25 All American team. He was selected because of his accomplishments and leadership, according to a letter from the foundation.

Taylor led the state with 21 sacks and was the Missouri Class 2 defensive player of the year. He was All-Metro, All-Region, All-Conference and All-State. Earlier this year, Taylor signed a letter of intent to play at Hutchinson Community College in Hutchinson, KS.

The nonprofit foundation works to offer mentoring, financial and educational assistance to inner city youth, the web site states.
