Brentwood Resident Update

The City of Brentwood is broken:

Only the residents can fix it.

  • The city is attempting to change the organizational structure of our city via the proposed employee manual.  The manual is not in compliance with our code (laws).  Alderwoman Saunders has asked repeatedly for City Administrator Akande and Ways and Means Committee Chairman, Alderman Kramer, to bring the manual into compliance and nothing has happened. The new structure will give Akande and future city administrators even more power than former city administrator Chris Seemayer.  The mayor and senior board members stated the city’s troubles occurred because Seemayer had too much power.  Now they want to give the administrator even more power! Does this make sense?
    • Alderman Kramer, City Attorney Albrecht, and City Administrator Akande are bringing the healthcare benefits for elected officials forward again possibly at the Monday Aug 20th BOA meeting, even though they received no direction from the Board to do so.  This information was newly received on Friday Aug 17.  Why is this?
      • City Administrator Akande, proposed we use the same private auditor, Hochschild Bloom & Company, who has been performing the city audits for years passed.  These auditors were blamed for past mistakes but nevertheless, Akande wants to continue to use them going forward.  She stated it would be easier for the staff.  Yikes!
        • In 2008 -2010 a new employee manual was written.  The Board was told repeatedly at the Ways and Means Committee meetings that it existed.  When Alderwoman Saunders asked City Administrator Akande for a copy, she stated she threw it out.  Throwing out of the manual was brought up at two meetings in which Akande never denied it.  She then sent out an email stating she misspoke and that there never was a manual, it was just a draft and an outline.  Is this professional?
          • Since the May Board of Aldermen meeting, Alderwoman Saunders, along with Alderwoman Manestar, have been requesting a follow up survey regarding the recreation center.  A simple survey out to the residents that bridges the time gap between the 2008 survey and what is being considered now.  This request has been met with much opposition.  Finally Alderman Leahy got on board by requesting such a survey and the Public Works Committee was able to move it to the Board.  However, Alderman Robertson is now suggesting we sell city hall and Alderman Leahy agrees with him.  The city sold land to TGI Fridays, which is now Fifth Third Bank.  This area was supposed to be part of our town hall center.  Why did the city need the money back then?  And why would we want to sell off more land, especially city hall?  The developments we have should be rolling in the dough according to past promises.
          • Public Safety Chairman, Alderman Wynn, has requested that city staff develop a “citizen request/comment card” which is currently being used at the public safety meetings.  Any Brentwood citizen who would like to make a comment at a public safety meeting would be required to put it in writing. Their question or comment would then be addressed at the next meeting the following month.  It is now being suggested these comment cards be used at the Board of Aldermen meetings as well.   Do you agree with this new practice?
          • Why didn’t the Mayor and former Board of Aldermen file a civil lawsuit against Chris Seemayer?  He walked away with his benefits and cost the city far more than the $30,000 he embezzled by looking the other way and allowing others to misuse our funds.  Seemayer approved the firemen’s unearned overtime, the elected officials’ health benefits, the T-Mobile phones, charitable contributions with city funds, use of city credit cards, and the list goes on. If you want to recover hundreds of thousands of your tax dollars, demand the city file a civil lawsuit against Chris Seemayer.

There is an agenda and the entire board is NOT setting it.  If you want control of your city, come to the Board of Alderman meetings and go to the podium and demand your aldermen listen to you.

            Hope to see you!

I've had it with this sorry crowd at City Hall. It's time for Brentwood residents to rise up and give these folks the boot.

Mayor Kelly and his partner in crime, City Enforcer Bola Akande, need to go ASAP, along with the several remaining aldermen who weren't tossed out in April. You know the ones -- the ones who vote with Kelly 99% of the time -- Kramer, Robertson, and Wynn.

A city governed by ethical, vigilant, competent officials would never have allowed Chris Seemayer to walk away with all those riches. A lawsuit is required to recover those funds for the taxpayers, and if Attorney Albrecht does't show some backbone and file such a lawsuit, then he'll have to go, too. It's lunacy that Seemayer was REWARDED by the mayor and aldermen for stealing tens of thousands of our tax dollars! Smells like hush money, doesn't it? "Please Chris, please don't rat on us. In return, we'll let you resign, we'll give you all kinds of payments and perks. Hell, we'll even write a letter to your prosecutor urging leniency and no prison time. How about it, Buddy?"

Brentwood residents need to rise up and reclaim our city from these "public servants." They supposedly work for us and love to preach greater government transparency -- LOL! -- yet they view us with contempt and disdain and try to take advantage of us at every opportunity.

I said this last week. If your elected officials can't or won't face the citizens in a public forum and answer for how they are running your city then make up some signs with your questions and concerns and walk around in front of the building. Hold your own meeting. Call the television stations and newspapers. Take it to the streets. They started this, you can finish it!

What in the world do we need a Mayor or any Alderman/Alderwomen? Bola has all the power to make any decision. She controls anything and everything happening in and out of City Hall. How much power did she have in Richmond Heights? Who gave her all this power? Heck, if the Mayor would resign, (which he said he would not do), I will volunteer to sit in his seat and break any tie votes that come up. Hey Chris Seemayer, come on back and work off your debt to Brentwood as the City Administrator at Minimum Wage. I'll hold the check book, ATM Card and any other credit cards City Employees may have.

As for selling City Hall, what are you going to move into, a mobile home. You could buy Carl's but you won't get enough money from the sale of City Hall to afford Carl's. That is one place the City Administration can't manipulate because the citizens will not allow anything happen to Carl's.

I attended last nights meeting.... now Pat Kelly talks about the Seemeyer "incident" like a distant and insignificant memory... This guy STOLE our money, he paid it back with OUR money and the city gave him a fat pension... He must have some real dirt on the city they caved ... and wrote a letter of recommendation at his sentencing hearing.

I gotta admit "I am as guilty as anyone". I post under an assumed name. Mainly because I don't wanna find time to get involved? I have stress like everyone! I am worried about putting food on the table, keeping my home, & spending time with my wife and kids! We are so lucky to have Cindy Manestar & Maureen Saunders. They have shouldered the entire communities weight to fight an enemy comparable to the "Brentwood version of the Taleban". (Selfish, highly organized, power/control driven, unknown supporters, & only concerned about their own selfish needs)
I'm sorry, the truth is; BRENTWOOD PEOPLE ALWAYS GOSSIP, COMPLAIN, AND RARELY STEP UP & GO TO MEETINGS TO BE HEARD! (DiD U rEaD mY FiRsT LiNe?) I'm GUILTY TOO! Maybe even more guilty coz I just figured oh well it will work itself out. It's all being blown out of proportion? Whatever? It's not!
Brentwood**we better all start stepping up! U have a guy that has no moral ethics, integrity, heart, or loyalty to the peope that elected him running our city. He can look you in the eyes & lie without even blinking. He hires outside companies for a Brentwood election to throw dirt on canidates or create scandals? (think about that in Brentwood?) He thinks that rules don't apply to him. so much so that now he's rewriting the city manual, changing the system, and making his own rules!

Not only that King Kelly hired a power hungry City Administrator who only cares about furthering her career, answering solely to the mayor, firing life-long employees & flexing her power. Who knows what's next? She probably wants to eliminate our police dept & bring in St louis county police for all we know? Cindy & Maureen are begging for our help! They don't want blogs & lip service from us. It's put up or shut up time! We have to support them and take our city back. I heard that Pat Kelly cannot be recalled because our municipality is too small or something? So far even with public pressure & Elliot Davis he hasn't gotten the message to resign. Let Brentwood start fresh! Maybe if we had an audit that went further than a year we could turn over some more rocks? We have to force King Kelly and Bola out in order to rebuild a better Brentwood. Personally I don't want to see King Kelly or Bola making decisions for the police chief regarding manpower/police issues/giving criminals get out of jail free passes along with paid retirement, seling city hall then of course building a new $10 million dollar site or something in 2/3 years, etc, etc... Do You? As all of you read my post think about this....

I’d echo what Rockos Lipstic said and add; I.M.O., Kelly knew that following the Seemayer crime there would be calls for his resignation. That’s why the term extension from 2 to 4 years was on the ballot before the disclosure of the crimes as well as the outing of the no-show overtime paid to the firefighters. He expected the current backlash and he wanted to insulate his lock on Brentwood from you, me and anyone else who was capable of free thought.

While it’s easy to get discouraged when you are on the outside looking in, I can assure you that the end of Kelly’s reign is near. There are more disclosures coming and eventually, weather at the pols or sooner, there will be new leadership in Brentwood. The key to change isn’t necessarily getting involved as a citizen as much as it is staying informed and paying attention then following through with your vote. Continued>>>>>>>

In years past city hall controlled the votes as well as the message with their stupid cable tv channel and coffee with the mayor, free work at church organizations with public money, the constant drum beat about no real estate taxes on your home from Brentwood, free trash service, the list goes on and on. How's that free stuff working out for you when you go to a Brentwood business and pay a 10% sales tax?

Seniors who always show up at the pols are groomed to drink the Kool-Aid , turn their head, hold their nose and vote for the old guard. Some old folks in Brentwood were actually afraid to publically support candidates other than Kelly & company for fear of having difficulty with city hall. Some actually thought if they called 911 maybe they couldn’t get help. This is the most glaring reason that city services must continue to be managed by a committee and elected officials rather than by dictator with questionable integrity and motives.

So, keep reading the Patch. Keep talking to your neighbors, keep thinking and make up your own mind, then vote. It’s really that simple.

Okay fellow residents, here's what we need to do:

            (1) Join the email list of Brentwood residents who are trying to throw the bums out of City Hall. That email address is brentwoodresidents@gmail.com.

            (2) Kelly Poodle Bola Akande has already sacked popular Parks Director Michele Frankowski and may sack other city employees in her quest to gain a total lock on power at City Hall. She poses a threat to our city's government and must be removed. She can be removed by a majority vote (5 of 8) of our aldermen. Urge your aldermen to do this.

            (3) The City needs to file suit to recover the taxpayer money awarded to felon Chris Seemayer to buy his silence re City Hall crimes. Such a lawsuit would also likely expose those crimes. A majority of aldermen can order this. Urge your aldermen to do this, too.

Ok, maybe some mistakes have been made, but broken, dont really think so. As for sales tax, I would much rather have others coming to Brentwood and paying for my services, rather than paying with my property tax. I am not an accountant and I understand that. Many of the services we recieve are FREE, while other municipalities charge. We have a new PD and FD and the city didnt have to seek a bond issue to build them. As for employee issues, maybe now that we have management at city hall, that is why some of the employees are angry. If this city was broken, changes have and are being made to fix it. I look forward to the completion of the state audit, to see what has been fixed already and what still needs to be done. I still have faith in "ALL" my city leaders, new and old.

There is nothing free in Brentwood, its all voodoo economics. Whatever you think you are getting for free is made up for with revenue from other sources. Again; 10% sales tax is the main funding mechanism. There's only 100 pennies in a dollar, where do you think that 10% will be in 2 years, 3, 4? Red light camera tickets, there's a bit of a screwing put on Brentwood residents by their aldermen. I won't even venture into Tiffs, TDD and other Tools that the local Tools have engineered.
