MRH Announces 'District Teacher of the Year’ & ‘School Teachers of the Year’
Maplewood Richmond Heights School District first grade teacher, Heather Bailey, has been named the 2012-2013 Teacher of the Year by the district. Bailey, nominated from the district’s Early Childhood Center, will be honored at the district’s annual employee appreciation dinner held in the spring.
The MRH District Teacher of the Year award recognizes a teacher who demonstrates excellence and commitment to teaching. The awardee is honored for his/her passion and commitment to the teaching profession; success of the individual’s classroom teaching approach; professional growth and development; innovation and creativity in the classroom; and knowledge of current teaching techniques and educational issues.
In addition to honoring Bailey, MRH is also honoring a teacher from each of its other three schools:
- Elementary School - Peggy O’Neal, Fourth/Fifth Grade Looping Teacher
- Middle School - Dan Reeve, Reading Specialist, Instructional Coach
- High School - Michael Cassell, English Teacher
“These individuals are a true testament to teachers who are changing lives every day through their dedication, talent, and service to our children and community,” said MRH Superintendent Karen Hall. “The commitment to our children from these teachers, as well as all of our teachers here at MRH, is truly inspirational.“
The selection process began at the school level, where principals nominated a “school teacher of the year.” These four nominations were then reviewed at the district level with one being awarded the “district teacher of the year”.
