St. Mary Magdalen's Seeks Help to Repair Church Bell Mechanism

St. Mary Magdalen Catholic Church announced in a recent newsletter that its church bell was recently inspected and found to be sound, but the mechanism used to operate the bell is beyond repair. The church is seeking money to replace the system so the bell will chime every hour between 7 a.m. and 9 p.m., ring a call to worship five minutes before each Mass, and for other occasions.

The cost is update the bell is $8,360.

"Given the importance historically of the church bell—for centuries they have been rung to tell communities of important news, the hour of the day, and the daily reminder of God—I would like to have this work done," said the Rev. Jack Siefert, the pastor at St. Mary Magdalen, in his newsletter announcement. "Given the fact that the 100th anniversary is coming up, it would send another clear message to the Brentwood community that St. Mary Magdalen is alive and well."
