9/11 Service Project Planned in Brentwood's Memorial Park

The event will include a 10th anniversary dedication and flag tribute.

A park cleanup and flag tribute highlight a service project on September 11 at Memorial Park in Brentwood.

The event is sponsored by St. Louis Volunteen, a youth volunteer organization, YMCA, and the Brentwood firepolice and parks departments.

The youth-led service project includes a creek cleanup, a one-mile memorial walk, a flag tribute and 10th anniversary dedication, states a news release from St. Louis Volunteen. The tribute will include 2,985 flags to represent the deaths on September 11, 2011.

A representative from the police or fire departments will also speak, said Maj. Dan Fitzgerald, assistant police chief of Brentwood.

St. Louis Volunteen invites Brentwood families to unite in the service project, calling the event "wonderful for families, children and individuals with special needs."

Sept. 11 is known as a National Day of Service and Remembrance.

*Clarification: The Brentwood Parks and Recreation Department also helped plan the 9/11 service project.
