Brentwood Aldermen to Discuss State Audit, With Feb. 15 Deadline
A meeting on Feb. 12 meeting will be closed. The state auditor's office will hold a public meeting when the final draft of the audit is ready.
The state audit of the City of Brentwood should soon be complete and made public.
Following a Jan. 29 meeting with state auditors, the Brentwood Board of Alderman will meet on Feb. 12 in a closed session to discuss the board's response to auditor's office.
The audit was initiated by a citizen-led petition drive in Summer 2011. The state began the audit in January, 2012.
The Brentwood board has no editing power over the audit, but its response will be inserted into the final draft, state auditor spokesman Spence Jackson said.
The auditor's office has given the board of aldermen a Feb. 15 deadline to submit its repsonse.
Jackson said the meeting on Tuesday will be closed, as the Jan. 29 meeting was.
"Because this is still considered a draft report and confidential, they should not discuss its contents or their responses in an open meeting," he said.
Jackson said after the board of aldermen's response is included, the audit will be reviewed by the office's senior staff and then on to State Auditor Tom Schweich for his approval.
"The next meeting we have will be a public delivery of our audit at a date and time to be determined by our office," Jackson said.

Mr. Thompson,
The Audit is a simple seeking or passage to the truth, which I believe most citizens would welcome with open arms.
Most have been raised and educated that if our actions are honorable,
we should always seek an open and honest truth, but certainly never live in fear of it.
Had "Leadership", the Mayor and former B.O.A. initially taken the honorable and judicious steps of completely vetting ALL the circumstances out through a forensic audit, this situation would be complete and our community would be on the road to healing and progress for our future.
For whatever reason, they rather took a highly questionable direction, and our community is suffering as a consequence of at the very least, very poor leadership.
Mayor Kelly has consistently taken comfort in espousing "Motivated
Blindness", or the tendency for people to overlook the unethical, often illegal behavior of others when recognizing the unethical behavior may harm them.
Often times individuals readily people forgive others who benefit from delegating unethical and/or illegal behavior or it is simply EASIER. The problem is that the study of history demonstrates that such practice often leads to gradual moral decay.
I believe most of us would like to clear the path for our community and children to enjoy an honorable, ethical and moral future.
