Brentwood Baseball's Mike Imergoot: Lost 7 Starters, Always Optimistic

Brentwood baseball has a nearly clean slate from last year's district-winning team.

Brentwood head coach Mike Imergoot said he has a young team and predicted they'd take some lumps, but said the goal is the state championship.

The Eagles head into the 2013 season minus three First Team All-Conference players: pitcher Kevin Smith (Player of the Year), outfielder Tyler Jones and utility player Jesse Sneed.

Junior infielder Dylan McGehee was First Team All-Conference, and Imergoot said he's putting him at first base this year.  Second-team All-Conference senior Steven Sadler returns as a catcher.

The Eagles open at Brentwood Park against Kennedy on March 20 at 5:30 p.m.

Personally, I look for great pitching from Bradley Jones and Conner Hancock backed up by a defense that has a talented Blake Kelly at third, Michael McGrath and Eric Suntrup rounding things out. A plethora of talented guys in Nick, Lucas, Roland, Mark will make a solid outfield. We've got Sadler with a cannon behind the plate. If we can be selective at the plate, swing at good pitches and get guys on base, we should get good power from Dylan, Sadler, Roland,Connor and Eric. If the guys put the work into the fundamentals, I'm looking to repeat as District Champs.
