For the first time in 13 years, a Brentwood wrestler, David Rivera, has brought a home a medal from the Missouri State High School Activities Association (MSHSAA) state wrestling championships. Rivera, a junior wrestling in the 285-pound weight class, brought home fourth place in the weekend-long championships held in Columbia last weekend.
According to Coach Roy Hughes, this is one of just a few state-level medals won by Brentwood wrestlers in the 82-year history of the MSHSAA event. In addition to wrestling, Rivera participates in three other MSHSAA-sanctioned activities: football, track and debate.
Five other Brentwood wrestlers qualified to the state tournament:
- Tyler Jones, senior, 170 pounds
- Rashaad Jordan, senior, 120 pounds
- Mykell Hudspeth, junior, 145 pounds
- Lucas Jones, sophomore, 106 pounds
- Eric Vogeli, sophomore, 138 pounds
