Brentwood Wrestler is a Scholar

David Rivera took fourth at the state meet, and on Sunday was honored statewide for his academics.

Brentwood junior wrestler David Rivera, weeks after taking fourth-place at the state wrestling meet, was recognized on Sunday for his academic achievements.

Rivera was honored as one of Missouri’s Academic All-State wrestlers at the Missouri Wrestling Association Hall of Fame Banquet in Columbia, MO.

Earlier this year, Rivera was named first-team all-district in football. He also throws shot and discus in track, competes on the debate team, and is a member of the National Honor Society

It was the first time in 13 years that a Brentwood wrestler won a medal at the state meet.

“David is a great young man,” Brentwood wrestling coach Roy Hughes said in an e-mail.  “He is a hard worker, very focused, and demonstrates great character in all aspects of his life.”
