Two monster innings that featured 26 at-bats for Brentwood allowed the Eagles to easily beat visiting Bayless 18-1 in five innings on Tuesday afternoon.

Brentwood had scored 15 runs by the second inning, led by Tyler Jones' three singles for three hits in the first two innings. Jones went 3-3 and also stole two bases.

"We can beat anybody if we work hard enough," coach Mike Imergoot said.

Several Eagles hit well on Tuesday. Ryan Marshall went 2-2 with a double, single, three RBIs and two walks; Jesse Sneed went 2-5 with three RBIs, two doubles and a strikeout; and Ryan Jones went 1-3 with a double, two RBIs, two steals and a walk.

Jones also pitched a complete game, allowing one run on six hits, two walks and 10 strikeouts in five innings.

Bayless coach Jon Robards said the Broncos found a couple positives in the loss. Junior Tony Florres, who took the mound for the second time ever on Tuesday, pitched two quality innings against Brentwood. He allowed four hits with two strikeouts and one walk.

"Tony did a really good job," Robards said. "Number 11 really stepped up."

He said his team had a few decent hits too.

Outfielder Ethan Miller went 2-2 with a single and double; first baseman Elliott Sterett went 1-2 with a single, walk and strikeout; shortstop Anthony Gaynor went 1-2 with a triple, walk and strikeout; and catcher Ben Arrendell went 1-3 with a single and the team's only RBI.

Bayless has five games in a six-day stretch. With 13 players on the team, Robards said they're hurting to find enough players to take the mound.

"We ran out of pitching quick," he said.

Ahead by several runs for the entire game, Imergoot took the opportunity to give his bench some playing time. And after tallying a high score in two innings, the Eagles opted not to take advantage of several defensive errors by Bayless in later innings. Brentwood batters would grab a base hit and didn't play as aggressive later in the game.

"We learned something: we win with dignity," Imergoot said. "You never want to embarrass your opponent. They're trying as hard as they can with what they have."

He said he was proud of his players for keeping a good attitude through the entire game.

The win gave Brentwood its 10th straight conference win and first conference victory of the season. Brentwood will next play Crossroads at Forest Park — St. Louis Community College at 4:15 p.m. on Thursday then travel to Metro for a 4:15 p.m. game on Friday.
