Great Harvest Bakery Explores Move to Maplewood
Great Harvest Bakery in Olivette hopes to move its operation to Manchester Road in January.
Great Harvest Bakery, a well-established bakery in Olivette, hopes to move its operation to Maplewood.
Owner, Steve Jawor has been on Olive Boulevard in Olivette for 10 years. He said his lease is up soon and was looking for a location with better foot traffic. He hopes to move to 7415 Manchester Road. He said the lease isn’t signed yet.
Jawor said he considered the Central West End and University City, but settled on Maplewood.
“We’ve gotten a real strong feeling about the community so we quickly made it one of our final selections.”
Jawor said he can’t move until after his busy season, which is Thanksgiving to Christmas. He plans on trading in his bread oven instead of moving it, which will speed up the transition.
In addition to the bakery, Jawor said he will sublease space to La Cosecha, a coffee roaster that will roast and sell free trade coffees onsite. A full coffee bar will be in the store.
“They make coffee very much like we make our bread,” he said. “They fresh roast. They buy international coffees from all over the world.”
Jawor will be at the Maplewood Planning and Zoning meeting on Oct. 1. He hopes to open in January.

Oh my god, this is so exciting! I have been hoping a bakery would move into town. I love the idea of walking up the street for fresh bread. How cool!

Just today I was wanting to go to Kirkwood for a Great Harvest veggie sandwich but had to settle for Bread Co. I love GH!! What a great addition to Maplewood it would be.

This is going to be great for Maplewood. We have needed a bakery for a long time! Also LaCosecha has the best coffee and they are dedicated to helping coffee growers especially from Central America, get a fair price for their crops.
