Hadley Township: How Many MRH Students Would Developments Affect?

As potential developers in Hadley Township, in Richmond Heights, have tried to reach agreements with residents of the area, current Maplewood Richmond Heights students wait to find out if they'll need to find new housing to stay in the district.

It was announced on Saturday in the St. Louis Post Dispatch, that Pace Properties will not continue to pursue its $125 million retail development just south of The Heights community center. A Menards is still being considered in the southern part of Hadley Township, just north of the Walmart.

MRH currently has 37 students in both the north and south sections, who would have to find a new home if both developments took place, according to District Communications Director Brian Adkisson.

Adkisson said a study was first done in 2007 when it looked like these developments might happen. At that time there were 57 MRH students from the area. That was 3.5 percent of the overall student population and 9 percent of the Richmond Heights students.

Adkisson said he hopes students needing to move could find new housing in the district, but said new houses generally aren't being built in the Mid-County area.
