UPDATE: Incoming MRH Board Member Alex Hogue Dies
The Richmond Heights resident was well known among the people associated with district's middle and high school communities.
Incoming Maplewood Richmond Heights Board of Education member Alex Hogue has died, the board's president said Monday.
Hogue died suddenly Sunday night, board President Maria Langston said. His family had not released additional details about his passing. Details about funeral arrangements were not immediately available.
"He was a very nice man," Langston said. Hogue had been scheduled to be sworn in as a board member in April, and the board had already been working with him on several issues of importance to the district.
Hogue was a resident of Richmond Heights' Hadley Township neighborhood and a frequent attendee at City Council meetings.
His son attends MRH High School in Maplewood.

Reggie Finney lived across the street from Hogue, whom he described as a family man concerned about issues related to children at the schools and the redevelopment of Hadley Township.
"He worked very hard on both of these issues," Finney said.
Hogue was a lifelong Richmond Heights resident.
He served for nearly 19 years as a firefighter with the St. Louis City Fire Department, Capt. Dan Sutter said.
"I think he was well liked and respected by his peers," Sutter said. He said that while that phrase is often used, it was true for Hogue.

I'm very sorry to hear about this. Mr. Hogue was a faithful member of the Tailgate Committee, as many of you know, I'm sure. He and his wife, Kim, hosted the whole MRH football team before many home games. I'm glad I had the chance to meet him.

This is so sad. Mr. Hogue was a regular visitor at the high school. A dad who kept up on his son and how he was doing in school. His presence at our sporting events will be missed, as will his delicious BarBQ. Our thoughts and prayer are with his family.

Alex always had a smile for everyone! We will miss seeing him at all the athletic events. He was a great supporter of the MRH school district and we had been looking forward to his insight on the School Board. Our prayers to his family.

This is a huge loss for the communities of Maplewood Richmond Heights & Brentwood. Alex Hogue really did a great job raising his two sons Charles & Lawrence. Two terrific boys that will live on in his honor as an example of his character, respect, & love! This man was very active in & wanted the best for his community! He truely considered the MRH football team & school as an extension of his family. A true example for all & a great great role model. Everytime I saw him he went out of his way to say hello, & I'm a Brentwood guy (Brentwood MRH rivalry). God needed a great firefighter in heaven & believe me he got thee very best!

Thanks to all of you. I miss my daddy so much.Iam my fathers oldest daugher and it really doesn't feel the same without my dad. I am very pleased to say that, my daddy was a wonderful person, liked by many, and also loved my many. I love my daddy dearly and I miss him. Love you daddy

I have been friends with Alex for a long time. WHY, because he is my husbands cousin, and our
son, Chase, always loves to mess with Alex!!

Because I had to wash them all up last night, I had to go and be the
color, flag,& marching, guard today to bury TWO firefighters my friends!!

Alex gets a lot of well deserved credit for his support of athletics in the MRH District. He was also a leading force in making sure the academic program delivered. He supported crack-of-dawn study halls and wanted the student athletes to succeed as students every bit as much as he wanted them to do their best in sports. He was ready to remind any student or teacher who slacked off how important academic success is. I only knew him this last year, but was deeply impressed by his connection to the community and readiness to step up when something could be better for the students.

I could always count on Mr. Hogue to make biweekly visits to my office regarding his son's progress. Last Friday we were joking around as to if I should approach him as a parent or board member. He laughed and said, "I'm both today, what you see now at the Academic Celebration is a board member. I'll be down in your office as a parent. I'm so happy he came down. I never would have thought that would be our last conversation. At that time we talked about everything he valued, his son, the community and how excited he was to have an opportunity to serve on the school board. Alex Hogue will be greatly missed at MRH High. I value and appreciate the support he provided to the high school.

We will truly miss the joy, laughter, and the good times with Alex aka.(Waffle-Jaws & Mr. Ma-Goo) cousin. His extended family the Hogues and Lawrences will miss him greatly. He was one loving cousin, always doing things his way. May he rest in peace with the Lord....
