Maplewood Police Chief Stephen Kruse is recommending the department purchase two new patrol cars, which are in the department’s budget. The city council will vote on the recommendation Tuesday.

The 2012/2013 department budget allocates $55,000 for the purchase of two new patrol cars.

Joe Machens Ford, of Columbia, MO submitted a bid proposal for two patrol cars.

The department is trading in two 2010 Ford Crown Victoria Police Interceptors, for which it will receive a $13,700 allowance.

The total cash cost of the two patrol cars is $39,050.

Joe Machens Ford is a State of Missouri’s Prime Contract Vendor, which has a statewide contract.

The cars were each bid at $591 over the state contract list price of $25,784 for additional expenses to meet the department’s requirements for all vehicles to be keyed alike, for vinyl seat covers, heavy duty rubber floor covers and the deletion of rear power windows. The cars have a 3.5 liter Eco-boost V6 all-wheel drive engine.
