I think it's a great idea.

If it's urban friendly, it might be a good idea. McDonald's isn't some boogeyman to be avoided at all costs. But if there are traffic concerns at that corner now, McDonald's would only make them worse.

That's great. Put a another fast food restaurant close to the high school. As if childhood obesity isn't a big enough problem...Just what we don't need! How about a fresh local vegetable market instead?

A huge NO to McDonalds. Traffic is already crazy there. I would like to see Maplewood grow in a more positive way. Not more fast food chains.

I like the CVS as long as they have good natural barriers like the QT. But I oppose a McD, there is one right down by Deer Creek.

I oppose moving McDonald's to the area at Big Bend and Manchester. It goes against all the good things Maplewood has accomplished in the last 10 years.

We already have a White Castle, a Jack in the Box, and Steak n Shake, not to mention a chinese food restaurant (which I love), all close/on that corner. Why do we need any more fast food there. I am sorry they will lose their business further south/west on Big Bend, but let them move elsewhere.

I also have been curious what all the road construction was for this Summer, there on Manchester. Especially on the south side of Manchester. I was told it was to add another lane...just to Bredell, which I thought a little strange. The only thing I can see, is they added a place for a bus to pull off and board/discharge passengers, and a small length of a lane, in front of City Hall. All of this on the north side....nothing I can see on the south side. Maybe I have missed something tho'. And maybe it was all in preparation for more redelvelopment??

A McDonalds or any other business on the CVS site would add traffic issues. I wish the city had required some greenspace along Hazel when the struck a deal with CVS

Downtown Maplewood has a great restaurant scene. A McDonald's at that corner would be an eye sore.

As a nearby resident, I'm already compiling a new list of pseudo-curse words, just thinking about the additional traffic congestion at that intersection. I really don't see how McDonalds would be a positive addition to our city. I'm not enthused about the CVS, but at least it will fill a need.

Mellow mushroom is a fantastic idea!! They franchise and I haven't seen any around here....let's get on that!!!

agreed, we have enough fast food options in maplewood, mcdonalds is a car freindly (drivethru) destination. a different food venue would be more acceptable, something like panera, chipotle, crazy bowls and wraps or even the mellow mushroom. a building that was built more walkable with a parking lot in back with no drive thru would be much more desirable than the epitome of fast food nation mcdonalds

Maplewood has worked very hard to slowly but surely change it's image over the years. Adding another fast food joint to that corner just takes us a step backwards. It completely ridiculous that it is even being considered since there is already a McD's just down the road in Shcrewsbury! American's do NOT need an McD's on EVERY street corner. The Maplewood High School is already flanked by a White Castle, Jack in the Box, and Steak n' Shake. What kind of message does that send to our kids? Let's keep it classy Maplewood. If you need a Big Mac that bad drive .5 miles down the road ...

Thanks Ian, for the article.....I read it before, but am thinking I misread it....they said a foot on each side added, and I think I was thinking a lane added. My son also wondered where the extra lane was. So it seems it is mainly for safety and water drainage that it was done. Or I got the idea a lane would be added from my son....who knows.

I don't see what all the fuss is about. The McDonalds down at Deer Creek is already in Maplewood. If they are not allowed to relocate the chances are they will just close up and move elsewhere. That is an old building and they will not rebuild in that location. Especially when there is talk about the highway going through there. I myself enjoy having a McDonalds in Maplewood.

How 'bout some McType 2 Diabetes to go with that.

I have a problem with McDonald's or ANY additional business in that area because of the traffic and safety concerns. More commercial revenue takes a larger part of the tax burden off of residents in the area and responsible owners are a huge asset in forming a strong partership with the community. BUT PUTTING YET ANOTHER HIGH TRAFFIC BUSINESS THERE IS NUTS.

QT is lobbying HARD to take over the Northwest lot and want to convince the city to let them install multiple fuel wells on site - right next to the high school football field. Safety - Anyone?

Our children are literally fighting their way across the streets to get to school and events. We do not need more traffic risking their safety. I LOVE more businesses coming to Maplewood, but do they all have to be in the same intersection? There is more to our business community than those four corners.

We have already had several students hit by cars - though thankfully no serious injuries that I know of. Adding more traffic to the intersection and more distractions for drivers is just asking for trouble.

Shell would be sitting right across the road from a QT which I'm sure won't be helpful to them.

Sure, there are kids - adn adults - that do not cross at the lights, but I have personally seen one kid get hit hard enough to knock his knees out from under him (although luckily his trumpet case took the brunt of the impact) and he ended up on the hood of the car. He was in the cross walk, crossing with the light AND the crossing guard was standing right there.

It mostly happens in the farthest West lane of Big Bend, where drivers are trying to make a right hand turn thru the red light to get on Manchester headed West and aren't looking at what is going on right in front of them because they are more worried about getting in front of any cars coming down Manchester.

Adding a McDonald's in this area would increase the number of distracted drivers as they are trying to salt their fries or balance their coffee and drive past the folks rushing in to pick up a prescription at CVS and gass up at QT.

Adding a QT would also add beer trucks making deliveries into the mix. And I shudder to think about the congestion (and people trying to race thru to avoid getting caught, when tons of drivers are trying to drive into and out of QT. Traffic gets blocked on Big Bend and Flora where they are now and only one busy road (Big Bend) is involved. Add Manchester to the equation and it's insanity.

McDonalds ranks right up there with the cigarette companies in that lack of moral conscious. They par-fry in lard, then finish with vegetable oil at the store, then tout their goodness. Folks, it ain't food, Hello!!!.

Are they going to make it easier for cars to turn into the parking lots so it does not back traffic up for people wanting to visit these businesses? I think they are starting at the end and in the next 5 – 10 years they will eventually work there way down to Sutton. I hope this doesnt happen but you know that everyone has a hard time fighting city hall.They probably would need something small so there isnt alot of traffic
