Hoops Update: Brentwood Girls Win Big Against Carnahan

This weekly update also includes news about the Brentwood boys team and the MRH girls and boys teams.

With just a few more days of school left until the holiday break, most of the local high school sports teams will find themselves in practice mode this week, with very few games scheduled until holiday tournament time begins the day after Christmas.

Just about everybody was in action, with lots of mixed results, except for the and boys basketball teams, which both had the week off and spent their time practicing everyday after school.

MRH (3-3) will do the same again this week, as it has no games on the schedule, and won’t be back in action on the court until next week, when the Blue Devils will travel down to Poplar Bluff (MO) for the nationally-renowned Poplar Bluff Holiday Invitational Tournament.

The Brentwood Eagles won’t have to wait that long to get back in action. They’re playing in the MICDS Holiday Tournament here in town, and will open up with a game against Saint Louis University High on Friday, with the tip off set for 6 p.m.

Brentwood is 3-2 on the year, and has been led by sophomore sensation Karvon Owens, who tops the Eagles in several categories, including scoring (16.3 points/game), assists (5.4 per game), and steals (4.0 per game).

In girls basketball news, the Brentwood girls won the only game they played last week, with a 42-22 victory over Carnahan High of St. Louis.

Junior guard Brittany Woods had 16 points in the win, and center Meredith McGrath added 14 points, 11 rebounds, and five steals, as the Eagles improved to 2-5 on the year.

This week, Brentwood has one game scheduled, a 7:30 p.m. contest on Tuesday night in Hillsboro (MO) against Grandview.

The MRH girls team fell to 3-3 on the year, after losing its only game last week at Whitfield.

Senior guard Antonia Lee continues to be the Devils’ leading scorer, with a 14.0 points/game average, while also hitting on 47.8 percent of her three-point attempts.

When MRH gets back on the court next week, it will be playing in the Cardinal Ritter Christmas Classic, which begins at Cardinal Ritter High in St. Louis on December 26.
