MRH Bronze Plaques Recovered, But Cut Up

Maplewood police contacted area scrap yards, and one of them had the plaques.

The two bronze plaques pried off the brick pillars at the Maplewood Richmond Heights field have been recovered, but are cut up into 35-40 pieces.

The plaques were pried off the plaques early in the morning of Aug. 2.

On Aug. 8, Maplewood detectives arrested a 63-year-old St. Louis man in connection with the suspected theft. This case will be forwarded to the St. Louis County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office. The man's name has not been released.

Maplewood Police officer Matt Nighbor said detectives called area scrap yards, who looked through their inventories. The plaques were found by a scrap yard in St. Louis city.

Update: MRH Director of Communications Brian Adkisson said he doesn't know when the plaques were cut up. He gave his thanks to the Maplewood Police Department for finding a suspect. He said MRH will be looking into options to replace the plaques.

Two questions, did the plaques arrive at the salvage yard in one piece or did the yard cut them up. If they arrived in one piece, why did the salvage company not notify police? The issue comes down to discouraging these thefts and if the yards were put on the spot about buying these stolen goods, air conditioners, copper pipe, etc., with no market the thefts would stop. Even if these plaques arrived cut up they obviously invite immediate suspicion. Then two parties should bear responsibility in my opinion.
