MRH Schools Highlighted in Washington Post
Maplewood Richmond Heights teachers visit students' homes in a program that has resulted in better grades and attendance.
Maplewood Richmond Heights schools participates in the Missouri HOME WORKS! program, a teacher-parent partnership program.
It's in 15 schools in St. Louis.
The Washington Post reported on the program on May 30, in which teachers visit parents in their homes. The increased communication between school and home has resulted in better scores and attendance, as well as fewer discipline problems.
"Home visits...don’t require that parents figure out how to fix an entire school. Their only responsibility is to help teachers improve the learning of their own children, something they are uniquely qualified to do," The Washington Post reports.
