MRH Lineman Has Offers from Big-Time Schools

Antar Thompson has offers and interest from the likes of Mizzou, K-State, Notre Dame and Alabama.

Antar Thompson, the lineman who caused some serious damage to area offenses last football season, is now grabbing more than opposing quarterbacks.

During the season, he , now he has offers.

Mizzou and Kansas State have made offers to the 6-foot-3 (almost 300-pound?) MRH junior, and according to MRH head coach Brandon Gregory, Louisiana State University, Alabama, Ohio State, Notre Dame and Purdue have shown interest.

Thompson had seven sacks and 74 total tackles for a total of 77 lost yards to opposing teams in 2011. He made the St. Louis Post Dispatch too.

Gregory said he sends highlight films to coaches, but coaches at big-time schools get films “every day, all day.”

“To even consider our kids, that’s a blessing,” he said.

“To not only look at our kids’ film, but to actually pay attention to it, it speaks volumes.”

Thompson hasn’t made a decision yet, but Gregory said a player could commit to a school, and then change his mind if another school becomes more attractive. It’s not final until National Signing Day, which is usually the first Wednesday in February, when seniors sign on the line, and the letter is faxed to the college.

He said for a player like Thompson, with multiple options, it can be stressful.

“Coaches are calling you, trying to talk to your mother, trying to convince you,” he said. “As long as (the players) have the right people in their corner, helping them figure out what’s right for them and their family, they should be OK with their decision.”

He said junior quarterback Kahlid Hagens is getting interest from Western Kentucky, Iowa, Kansas, Nebraska, and smaller schools. Junior, Wes Williams has interest from colleges as well.

These seniors-to-be make the 2012 football season look promising for MRH.

"The sky is the limit for us next year,” Gregory said. “Of course as always, we want to bring back a state championship.”
