MRH School Board Members to Advise on Deer Creek Redevelopment
Two MRH Board of Education members were appointed to a commission that will advise Maplewood City Council on whether the city should use tax-increment financing to redevelop the vacant Deer Creek Center building.
Maria Langston and Nelson Mitten will represent the Maplewood Richmond Heights School District on a commission aiming to advise Maplewood City Council during the Deer Creek Center redevelopment process.
Langston and Mitten, two members of the MRH Board of Education, were appointed to the commission during Wednesday's school board meeting.
Twelve people will be appointed to a commission that functions as an advisory board to the Maplewood City Council. The commission will specifically offer recommendations on whether the city should use tax-increment financing (TIF) to fund the redevelopment.
The commission will be comprised of members appointed from different taxing bodies, including the City of Maplewood, MRH School District, St. Louis County, the Metropolitan St. Louis Sewer District and the Zoo Museum District.
Langston and Mitten will join Mike Hummert, Dan Noonan and Skip Watkins, who were appointed by the Maplewood City Council in October.
Langston, the school board president, suggested she and Mitten serve on the commission. Langston lives in Maplewood and Mitten lives in Richmond Heights.
