Superintendent Thanks Community for Support at Rally, Have a Favorite Sign?
When Westboro Baptist Church came to Maplewood Richmond Heights they were met with opposition. Superintendent Karen Hall thanked the community for the support.

Maplewood Richmond Heights superintendent Karen Hall thanked the community for coming out in the hundreds to support the high school play, The Laramie Project, on the school district website on Monday.
"On behalf of the Maplewood Richmond Heights School District, I want to thank you for the tremendous amount of support you showed our district this weekend. By sending emails of encouragement, making phone calls of support, coming to our rally, and attending the play, you showed that we will not allow hate in our community, nor allow our students to be bullied."

A group from Westboro Baptist Church picketed the play with signs expressing hate for Mathew Shepard, the subject of the play, and for gays in general.
A crowd came out to support the play and oppose the Westboro group. Many showed their feelings with signs. Do you have a favorite?

No, she is supposed to support and protect our kids and ensure they have a safe, supportive environment in which to learn.
This isn't a matter of religion. It is a matter of safety, support and leading by example. All of which she does with dignity and pride.

yes its a matter of religion do you see the words ''Church'' on the signs and it is not supporting or protecting children by indoctrinating them with glbt FILTH. do you know the ''t'' standing for mutilating the genitals and masquerading as the opposite sex. It is not supporting them and protecting them by encouraging them in a lifesyle that is rife with disease, alcoholism. addiction. suicide abuse rape and early death. This leads me to my favorite sign, which my friend, Rich was holding. "If the WBC is here, we must be doing something right." Sure, our action was called a counter-protest, but it wasn't really. It was a celebration. We turned our backs on the WBC and celebrated the tolerance and diversity that's embraced here in Maplewood and Richmond Heights. I'm grateful that they gave me a chance to meet neighbors and support our students. Thank you, WBC.

Thank you Anne and TP. I could not feel more proud to live in the MRH community and see the outpouring of support from citizens from across the metro area. Thank you to everyone who stands up against hate.
