Multiple Brentwood Debaters Win, Others Place in Weekend Tournament

Both novice and varsity debaters take firsts at tourneys.

Brentwood debaters won several first-place finishes at a tournament last weekend.
The Brentwood debaters back at Brentwood HS.

Brentwood Debate Team coach Robyn Haug reported that the Brentwood Debate Team went to the Clayton–Ladue Invitational Nov. 17-18. Both the novice and varsity groups performed well, she said.

Students in the finals on the novice side of the tournament at Ladue Horton Watkins High School:

  • Cole Mayfield / Austin Koster: 1st Place Duet Improvisation
  • Nora Durham: 2nd Place Prose Reading
  • Jonathan Duffe - Holmes: 5th Place Extemporaneous Speaking
  • Alex Patton: Super Session of Student Congress

Students in finals on the varsity side of the tournament at Clayton High School:

  • Michael Harries / Steven Sandler: 1st Place Champion Public Forum Debate
  • David Rivera / Dallas Neely: 1st Place Champion Public Forum Debate
  • Lucy Sappington: 2nd Place Dramatic Interpretation
  • Dallas Neely: 2nd Place United States Extemporaneous Speaking
  • Chris Williams: 3rd Place Humorous Interpretation
  • David Rivera: 6th Place International Extemporaneous Speaking
  • David Rivera / Dallas Neely: 6th Place Duo Interpretation
  • Steven Sandler: Super Session of Student Congress
