Mystic Valley Moving from Deer Creek to Downtown Maplewood

Mystic Valley, a new age metaphysical store, is moving to Manchester Road.

Mystic Valley, a store that started 25 years ago on Brentwood Boulevard, then moved to Deer Creek Center when the Venture store was new, is moving again.

Its new spot is 7241 Manchester Road, the old Drum Headquarters location. It's across Manchester Road from Kakao Chocolate.

The "new age metaphysical store," as co-owner Kristy Ponticello calls it, survived 19 years at Deer Creek. She said business was booming back when the Venture, Payless Shoes, and Colonel Days Levis Emporium were there.

Her father, Vito Ponticello, started the store. He died in 2000; that's when Kristy Ponticello and her sisters, Dina and Traci took over.

She credits the store's survival to lots of regular clients, and the fact that it's a specialty store without much competition. She said crystals and stones are a big part of their business.

"We honor all the traditions and spiritualties," Ponticello said.

The new store will have more space, which will include a larger classroom for yoga and Tai Chi. She said it will be the same but bigger and better.

Deer Creek Center is being redeveloped, pending the larger spaces being leased. The project hasn't been approved by Maplewood City Council yet.
