What the Sutton Bus Loop will look like in two years remains unknown.
Maplewood City Council briefly discussed the bus loop during a work session on Monday before deciding to table the discussion for a future meeting. The area is located between Hazel and Maple avenues on Sutton Boulevard.
The city already paid to remove the bus loop's pavement in the fall, and next year's fiscal budget—which begins on July 1—is expected to include $250,000 to pay for whatever city council decides.

Most council members agreed that the location could serve as a town square-style space for residents, business owners and visitors.
Anthony Traxler, public works director for the city, said he plans to apply for a St. Louis County grant that might help. If awarded the grant money, the city could hire a company to examine the Sutton Bus Loop and offer a master plan with different options.
The grant decision is expected by April, Traxler said.
Council members agreed to table the discussion until Traxler learns the outcome of the grant.

A town square is a good idea, but there would need to be more businesses around it for it to feel more alive. There is Tilt going in, but I think it would need more.

How about a gazebo \ band shell structure, so bands wouldn't have to be out in the sun for the summer concerts.

I was at an outdoor event in Maplewood where there was a booth with several proposed landscape/architectural designs for the bus loop space. People were asked to vote for one of the options, so that the winner would be selected and built. What happened to this effort?

Love the idea of keeping most of it green space with maybe a small water feature and piece of public art.

I have a similar comment to Josh's: What happened to the proposed landscape/ architectural designs for the bus loop space that people were asked to vote on? Which one won? Were they too expensive? What were the budgetary parameters given to the competitors? – hmm sounds like a possible story for the Patch
