Tiffany's Diner to Start Serving Beer and Alcohol

The owner wants to pull more of an afternoon and weekend crowd to the Maplewood restaurant.

Last summer Tiffany’s Original Diner added snow cones to the menu. This summer, the Maplewood restaurant plans to add beer.

Owner Greg Winchell said he’s trying to attract customers that might go down the street to another Maplewood business.

“We’re not trying to become a pub or a bar,” he said. “We’re just adding a few more things to the menu, and this on the drink end.”

Maplewood City Council passed a motion on Tuesday to approve a liquor license for the diner on the corner of Manchester Road and Sutton Boulevard. At the meeting, City Manager Marty Corcoran said the permit is good as long as 51 percent of the diner's sales remains food.

Winchell said most liquor sales would be in the afternoons and on weekends to draw the sports-watching crowd.

“We’re looking at a minor increase in a lot of areas," he said. "Because most of our heavy business is late night, and we can’t/won’t serve alcohol late nights."

Winchell said he still needs approvals from the county and the state, and he's never owned a bar so he's not sure how long that will take. He guessed it might be a month before he can serve drinks.

Tiffany's diner - many good memories there from back in the day. A place to go for good food and angry waitresses. LOL
