Vote Maplewood Chefs for Best in Midwest
Cast your vote if you want to see Monarch's Josh Galliano or HomeWineKitchen's Cassy Vires named The People's Best New Chef in the Midwest for Food & Wine Magazine.
Food & Wine Magazine is usually the place to go when foodies want to know who the next up-and-coming chefs are.
But now the tables have turned. Food & Wine Magazine is asking readers who should be named the top ten new chefs in the U.S., and two of Maplewood's own are nominated: Monarch Restaurant's Josh Galliano and HomeWineKitchen's Cassy Vires.
Galliano's star has been on the rise lately. He is a semifinalist for the James Beard Foundation Restaurant and Chefs Awards in the "Top Midwest Chef" category, a major award in the food industry.
Despite the prestige Galliano has been earning in the food world, the restaurant where he's been working as executive chef is about to close down for good. Monarch announced its imminent closing late last month.
Galliano is still eligible for the awards, even if he is "homeless" soon, but he recently told Maplewood-Brentwood Patch that he is looking for a restaurant of his own to open.
"Nothing is set in stone yet, and I am trying to be judicious and smart about it," said Galliano, who has several business plan and location ideas at the moment. "Wherever it is, and whatever the concept will be, it will have to be what's right for that community, my family and anyone else who might be involved."
Vires is a strong contender for the title of The People's Best New Chef Midwest herself. Food & Wine magazine praises her "delicious, inspired dishes" based on the menus she puts together for her own dinner parties.
If you want to see Vires or Galliano crowned as Food & Wine Magazine's Best New Midwest Chef, vote on the website from today until March 11.
