Every vote counts. And that may prove to be the case in the election for the Sub-district 3 seat on the St. Louis Community College Board of Trustees.

It appears that Webster Groves native Joan McGivney defeated her opponent, Bob Burns (I), on Tuesday by only 14 votes, according to final, unofficial election results. It's likely election officials will do a recount on Wednesday.

Burns, of Affton, was appointed by the board to fill the seat vacated by the resignation of JoAnn Ordinachev in December 2011. 

McGivney, if she wins, will serve for the one-year balance of Ordinachev’s term, which expires in 2013. 

Sub-district 3 includes southern and southwest portions of St. Louis City and the Maplewood-Richmond Heights, Affton, Bayless, Brentwood, Kirkwood and Webster Groves school districts.
