The race is \;open to the public and is chip-timed\, making it a perfect even t for casual and more serious-minded runners alike.\nMore than \;5\, 000 girls will participate in the race\, which will be &ldquo\;Under the C&rdquo\; &ndash\; meaning it will be promoting what race participants have been &ldquo\;training for&rdquo\; while also training to run this 5 k &ndash\; Courage\, Character\, Creativity and Confidence. The race is a community 5k that raises money for the Girls on the Run St. Louis Scho larship Fund. The event will start with a 1-mile fun run at 8 a.m.\, wit h the 5k following at 8:30 a.m.\nGirls on the Run is a life-changing exp eriential learning program for girls age eight to 13 years old. The prog ram educates and empowers girls at an early age in order to prevent the display of risky behaviors in the future. Girls in the program spend 10 weeks training for the 5k\, while at the same time participating in week ly lessons that help them build upon their courage\, character\, creativ ity and confidence.
