The Missouri Department of Transportation reports its St. Louis work zones for May 16-22.
The Senior PGA golf tournament comes to St. Louis and it will include road closures. Route AB (Ladue Road) will be closed between Route 141 and Mason Road from 6 a.m. to 8 p.m. daily from Tuesday, May 21 through Sunday, May 26. Mason Road will also be closed during these same hours and days from West Wailing to Ladue Road. The Missouri Department of Transportation will have lane closures on a few interstates this weekend. Two lanes will be closed on southbound I-170 at Route 180 (St. Charles Rock Road) at 9 p.m. Friday, May 17 to perform preventative maintenance on the I-170 bridge over Route 180. A month after Maplewood voters approved Proposition Q, allowing QuikTrip to relocate to the northwest corner of Manchester and Big Bend, the agreement is on its way to being changed. QuikTrip may no longer buy the property on Big Bend for a cut-through street to the school. Southbound traffic may be allowed on Martini Drive, rather than being totally blocked, and solar-powered lights may warn motorists of pedestrians at crosswalks. The Maplewood city council Tuesday made the first two votes out of three to amend the planned unit development (PUD) unanimously and without discussion. At the Maplewood City Council meeting, at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday the council will consider revising the ordinance that allowed QuikTrip to move, allowing Roots to move to the space that Tigerlily is vacating, and Vom Fass's request for a liquor license. Legislation to allow gay marriage in the state cleared its final hurdle Monday, May 13. With Gov. Mark Dayton expected to sign the bill as soon as tomorrow, Minnesota will become the 12th state in the country to allow same-sex couples to marry.
The Minnesota Senate approved H.F. 1054 Monday, May 13, clearing the way for Minnesota same-sex couples to marry in the state. The 37 to 30 vote, which was seen as the last hurdle for the legislation, makes Minnesota the 12th in the United States to recognize same-sex marriages in state law. Democrats, known locally as the DFL party, hold a 39-28 advantage in the Minnesota Senate. Debate began shortly after noon Monday, with the Republican Party introducing a pair of amendments to the bill, both of which were voted down by state Democrats, who control the Senate. The Brentwood Board of Aldermen voted 6-2 to allow backyard chickens on May 6.
Now that Brentwood has an law regarding chickens, some residents who had them before it was passed said yes to some video of their chicks. Angie Hulshoff got her chickens three years ago after she asked a city employee if it was OK and wasn't told no. She was an outspoken proponent of allowing them. The elementary school girls ran in the Girls on the Run race Saturday morning.
A group of about a dozen Maplewood Richmond Heights Elementary were among 200 schools from 19 counties to come to the 10th annual Girls On the Run five kilometer race. The girls prepared for the run with a curriculum that included running, as well as 20 lessons to inspire them to become independent thinkers, to enhance their problem solving skills and make healthy decisions. The Missouri Department of Transportation reports the St. Louis Work zones for May 9-15.
MoDOT's maintenance crews are continuing to work daily on touching up striping on state roads around the region. Drivers should be aware of slow moving maintenance operations on roadways as crews continue to work on putting on a new coat of paint. When drivers see a MoDOT vehicle with flashing lights, they should remember to slow down or move over to avoid the work ahead. Often three or more maintenance vehicles will be spaced out over some distance to complete maintenance work. In St. Louis County, blasting operations on southbound I-270 near Big Bend is scheduled weekdays at 1 p.m., and will continue weekly, weather permitting. Both directions of Interstate 270 will have a rolling closure and potential stopped traffic for approximately …

Residents heard about the road project Wednesday in Shrewsbury.
About 70 area residents gathered Wednesday at the Shrewsbury City Center to learn about the South County Connector, a proposed 4-lane road through Shrewsbury and Webster Groves as it connects Hanley Road in Maplewood and the River Des Peres Parkway in Shrewsbury. Trailnet, the group known for promoting bicyling and hiking in St. Louis, hosted the meeting. The group's Marielle Brown said the 4-lane road would be from 1.5 to 2 miles long. At intersections it would be up to seven lanes wide. It would be elevated through several points, with a full interchange at Interstate 44. Both proposed routes go through the Deer Creek Center parking lot. Brown said it would be elevated, either on a structure or would sit on top of fill. Maplewood Ward 1 …
