Following the auditor's presentation Tuesday, some thought more needed to be looked into.
Missouri State Auditor Tom Schweich had bad news for Brentwood residents Tuesday. His audit of the city found 21 things in need of improvement. Schweich spoke to several hundred in the main meeting room of the Brentwood Rec Center. “Twenty-one is a large number of findings,” he said. “That’s much more than we usually see. That’s the bad news.” See a Patch article with the content of the audit. Schweich gave Brentwood a ‘poor’ rating, the lowest possible in his four-tier grading system. He didn’t say there was good news, but he said no criminal conduct was uncovered, and that the current city administration seems committed to fixing the problems. He said his office spent almost 1,500 hours on the audit, which will cost the city …

The city is still looking for a school crossing guard for the busy morning intersection.
A Brentwood city/school district cooperative effort to have a crossing guard at the intersection of White Avenue and Brentwood Boulevard is still in process. A guard was hired and scheduled to start on Monday, April 29, but called to say they can no longer accept the position, City Administrator Bola Akande said. A resident said delaying the decision is hurting the ice rink.
Brentwood could be closer to a decision about what to do with the aging Brentwood Recreation Center/Ice Rink, as of Wednesday. To help the city decide, it hired Kenneth Warren, Ph.D, of the Warren Poll, who polled 646 Brentwood residents from April 1-15 on their opinions of the Brentwood Recreation Center, City Hall and Library. Warren was chosen by the Public Works committee in December 2012. On Wednesday he presented the results of his polling to the Public Works Committee. Among his findings (percentages rounded): Warren said the bottom line is that residents want renovations but only a trickle of them are willing to pay more than a $100 more in property taxes per year to fund it. He blamed that on the poll being administered at the …
