- In 1925, Brentwood special police officers were paid a mere $1 a year and acted similarly to today's reserve officers.
- Brentwood, formerly called Maddenville, became incorporated by mayor James L. Willingham when Maplewood tried to annex the area.
- Maplewood became incorporated to provide fire protection and schools for the city after a 1908 fire at Banner Lumber Company destroyed nine buildings in the community.
- When James Sutton died after moving into the Maplewood area, he left his nine children in charge with divided portions of his land. His daughter, Mary C. Marshall, sold hers to two real estate men named Theodore Papin and Louis H. Tontrup who were the first to separate it into blocks and call it Maplewood.
- Jerome, Weaver and Folk Avenues in Maplewood were all named after three state attorneys who prosecuted bribe takers.
