Patch Picks: Five Nearby Day Hikes

  • Babler State Park - Located right outside the suburbs of St. Louis, Babler is great for an early morning or evening walk. Enjoy big forest trees, wildlife and challenging trail systems.
  • Cuivre River State Park - Trails like Big Sugar Creek Trail offer longer distances with easy hiking, along with gorgeous moss-covered hollows. Open to equestrians, overnight camping allowed in designated areas.
  • Pickle Springs Natural Area - Probably some of the most natural wonders packed into a two mile loop around, Pickle Springs will make you feel like you've stepped into the past, before buildings even existed. Located in Ste. Genevieve County between Farmington and Ste. Genevieve, this hike is worth visiting at least twice.
  • Bollinger Mill State Park - Check out the Bollinger Mill Trail, which leads to a piece of history in the form of a cemetary from the early 1800's. For the adventurous types, try to find the geocache nearby.
  • Weldon Springs Clark Trail - Located in nearby St. Charles, Weldon Springs is considered one of the most scenic trails in Missouri. Bring a camera to snap shots of the Missouri river, limestone cliffs and bluffs.
