Shakespeare Festival St. Louis' Production of "Othello"

ST. LOUIS (February 14, 2012) -- Shakespeare Festival St. Louis’ production of “Othello” will run from May 25-June 17 (excluding Tuesdays) at Shakespeare Glen in Forest Park on Fine Arts Drive. Preview performances are scheduled May 23-24. This is the festival’s 12th season of producing free performances of Shakespeare’s work in an outdoor setting. Believed to be written in approximately 1603, Othello is a play about an outsider who misplaces his trust with cataclysmic results. Its themes of racism, love, jealousy and betrayal have made it one of the most popular plays in the world.

As in previous years, the Pre-Show Festival activities will include a nightly Green Show at 6:30 p.m. The Pre-Show will include: a 20-minute adaptation of “Othello” which will introduce the characters and plot to children of all ages; musicians, dancers, singers, jugglers; a craft table for kids; conversations on the lawn by local scholars, as well as new activities. The popularity of last year’s inaugural backstage tours before each performance and 20-minute post-show talkbacks will continue this season.

Seating for "Othello" is available on the open lawn. Rental chairs are available. Please visit www.shakespearefestivalstlouis.org or call 314/531-9800 for further information.
