Brentwood Police: Don't Warm Your Car For a Thief

A thief made off with a car left running at the Mobil station in Brentwood.

Tis' the season, when we warm up our cars in the morning, and go back in the house for our cup of coffee. Do you leave the engine running when you run into the store to "just pick something up fast"?

This morning, at the station on Brentwood Boulevard, a customer went into the shop and left her car running after getting gas. When she left the shop, someone entered her car and drove away.

The thief not only got a warm car. It also was full of gas.

If you are warming your car in the morning, then have a spare key handy and lock the car if you go back inside the house. Whenever you are at the gas station for a fill up, always turn off the car and take your keys.

This is another example of a crime of opportunity. Be smart, don't offer the opportunity.
