Bites Nearby: Spring Into the Season With Good Gardening Workshop
The 2011 Good Gardening, Good Food Workshop Series continues with a home gardening instructional session.
It looks like spring is finally here to stay. Birds are chirping, the sun is shining and everything is a beautiful green. Springtime also marks the beginning of the gardening season for many residents. What better way to get started on the right foot than with an engaging instructional session?
This Saturday, Maplewood's hosts the Fruit Trees for Home Gardens workshop from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. During this three hour session, participants will learn how to create a home garden that produces fresh seasonal fruit the whole family can enjoy.
With the help of instructor Dan Kelly from Blue Heron Farm in Canton, MO, participants will learn how to plant, prune, graft, cultivate and harvest many fruit crops, including peaches, apples, pears and cherries.

With the huge bounty of fresh fruit you're bound to produce, preservation will be key. Luckily, the workshop will also focus on preserving your crops to enjoy throughout the rest of the year.
