Book House Needs to Hire Contractors, Starts Campaign to Raise $25,000

The Book House is moving to Maplewood, but not before its leased location meets code.

The Book House owner, Michelle Barron, in the process of moving the business from Rock Hill to Maplewood, has started an Indiegogo crowdsourcing campaign to raise $25,000.

She’s moving to a spot in the 7300 block of Manchester Road that hasn’t been occupied for almost 20 years, which needs lots of work to meet code. She has until the end of September to be out of the Rock Hill location.

"Moving is the easy part," she said. “They won’t let us put them in there until we pass code, and if we’re lucky we can get it done in two months,” she said.

Barron said she needs money more than volunteers.

“We can’t just go in and do it with elbow grease,” she said. “We need heating and cooling experts, electricians. What we need is for everybody to donate 10 bucks, and for people to come in here and buy books.”

Barron said they’ll be lucky to be open in October, but her real goal is to not miss the holiday season in December.

“Eventually it will be up and it will be beautiful,” she said. “We just want to get something up by Christmas.”
