Flying Tiger Catching Up to Harley Davidson in Facebook Likes

A Flying Tiger Motorcycles fan won himself a t-shirt on Wednesday. He happened to be the 4,000th person to Like the Flying Tiger Facebook page.

Flying Tigers Motorcycles co-owner Eric Bess said he’s spent only about a thousand dollars on advertising in three years, not counting t-shirts and stickers.

"We’ve done really well with doing just social media stuff, and our customers spread the word. That’s the biggest thing," he said. "Word of mouth for us has been fantastic."

Bess was especially happy about reaching 4,000 because it puts him in striking distance of Gateway Harley Davidson, in South County. Gateway had 4,057 Likes Wednesday afternoon. Bess said Flying Tiger averages a hundred new Likes a week.

“We’ll catch them this weekend, then Doc’s will be the only one ahead of us,” Bess said. Doc’s Harley Davidson, in Kirkwood, was at 5,050 Facebook Likes on Wednesday.

Bess said catching Gateway is big because the South County shop has a staff “that’s easily triple mine, with what I understand, a dedicated marketing person.”

He said he has a good relationship with both shops, though.

“I’m sure they’re good. They have to be; they’re selling Harleys,” Bess said.
