Food Critic: Firehouse Subs in O'Fallon

That's right, you're the local expert.

When it comes to restaurants, O'Fallon has plenty.

O'Fallon has some local places that many would consider community gems, some restaurants that aren't exactly mom-and-pop but are unique to the area and O'Fallon certainly have plenty of chains lining our main streets.

But what the city doesn't have have is a consistent food critic to tell us what's good and what's not.

That's where you come in. It's your community. You eat the food. You tell us if it passes the mark.

Earlier this week, Firehouse Subs opened in O'Fallon. The sandwich shop is located at 104 Laura K Dr.

If you gave the new restaurant a try this week, we want to hear what you thought! Tell us in the comment section below!

I tried them out on opening day. I had a turkey, bacon, ranch sandwich and it was pretty good! I like that a pickle comes with the meal!

I visited Firehouse Subs® on Wednesday, the 28th and again on Friday the 30th. I tried a large (12") Club on a Sub™ on white bread (Smoked turkey breast, Virginia honey ham, crispy Smithfield® bacon, and melted Monterey Jack, complete with mayo, mustard, lettuce, tomato, onion, and a dill spear on the side.), and it was a very good sandwich. The other sandwich I bought , though, has turned into my go-to purchase; the default order. A large (12") New York Steamer® (Corned beef brisket, pastrami, melted provolone, mustard, mayo, and Italian dressing with lettuce, tomato and a dill spear on the side.) on white is the only way for me. The portions are substantial, the meat is flavorful and shaved nicely. The fact that they steam the meats before loading up the sandwich makes all the difference. With nine more Firehouse Subs® set to open in the Saint Charles area next year, one will probably be coming to your area. Look for it and go. Often. One thing to note: The prices on the menu board are for what they call a medium (8") sandwich. A large is $2.00 more than the listed menu price.

I went in on Feb 19th. I walked in the door at 6:10 i saw one man standing at the end of the counter talking to a older couple. I saw one employee cleaning lights and one employee watching him. One employee was taking orders and another was making sandwiches. It took till 6:22 for them to take my order and there was only two people in front of me. 6 more people walked in behind me and the male employee continued to talk to the couple for another 10 minutes. The two employees finally finished the lights and began helping make sandwiches. I finally got my food at 6:37, the woman who took my order apologized to the man in front of me for it taking so long, but didnt say anything to me. I was visibly frustrated as I had to get my daughter to a 6:45 appointment. The sandwiches were ok, but not good enough to put up with that kind of service.
