Maplewood Remodeling Business Owner Said Now is a Good Time

Consolidated Construction Group has been in the same spot for 23 years. The owner said they're doing different work now than they did 20 years ago.

Maplewood business-owner, Dave Dunlap, of , said staying in business in this economic climate means cutting where they can.

"When you provide benefits and a 401(k) like we do, it's hard to adjust your wages, so what you end up doing is cutting your profits,” he said in an article in STLtoday.

“That's why you've seen a lot of companies say, 'The heck with this' and get out of the business," he said.

Dunlap said his company is doing more “maintenance” jobs lately. He said folks used to spend $65,000 on a master bedroom. Now people are trying to find more usable space in their homes, like deck additions, and attic and basement remodels.

The currently low interest rates make it a good time to finance a remodel, plus contractors are cutting their prices to keep busy.

Consolidated has been in the same spot on Sutton Boulevard since 1989. They’ve remodeled both floors of their building, including stripping and dipping the original tin ceiling.
