Maplewood Hair Salon Moves to New, Bigger Space

Meggan Decker specializes in hair for weddings, then many clients stay on.

Meggan Decker, owner of Pixies Hair Design, said she didn’t grow her business on purpose.

She’s gone from working at home out of her kitchen sink, to her first shop at 2709 Sutton Boulevard, to her newly renovated space at 2512 Sutton. She said her first location was a good place to start out in.

“It was supposed to be me, doing weddings,” she said. “It’s grown a little bit without the intentions of it growing.” She said some of her clients have stayed with her for 10 to 12 years after their wedding.

Her main reason to move was the need of a washer and drier.

“For the last two years I’ve been taking all my trash home, laundry home, and with other stylists working, I’d have to go home, do the laundry,” she said. “I needed a washer-dryer, and over there it wasn’t set up for that.”

She said she does the hair of her new location’s property manager’s wife. That’s how she found the new spot. She said the newly-painted tin ceiling is her favorite part of her new space.

Wednesday, Decker was cleaning, getting ready for clients on Thursday. She said she’ll figure out the chandelier and art on the wall eventually.
