Penzeys Spices Space Expanding

The Maplewood spice shop will break through a wall and add more display area and two ADA bathrooms.

The place for spices in St. Louis, , in Maplewood, is expanding.

The shop at 7338 Manchester Road has been in business 11 years. It currently occupies 2,500 square feet. It will break through the wall to the west and fill the space that was most previously .

Two new ADA bathrooms, some storage, and more display space will go into the additional 1,500 square feet.

Part of the new display will be known as Grandma's Kitchen, and will replicate an older kitchen, according to an article in Feast Magazine.

Rob Birenbaum, who owns the two properties, said it’s no surprise the company has grown.

“Penzeys first located a store in St. Louis because they felt it was fertile, based on the strong mail-order business they had from the area," Birenbaum said.

"Now more than a decade later they are expanding, which is further proof that St. Louisans are active and dedicated cooks, and downtown Maplewood is a viable place for specialty retailers.”

He said Penzeys hopes to move into the new space by mid November.
