The Book House Should Start its Move to Maplewood Next Week

The Book House is still open in Rock Hill during the move.

Michelle Barron said it looks like the move to Maplewood for her book store, the Book House is finally going to happen.

“It feels like pulling teeth,” she said. “Now I’m waiting for Red Brick (the owner) because Red Brick has to get their junk out of there.”

Barron has to move out of her current location in Rock Hill because the property is being turned into a storage facility. The fate of the historic house on the lot may be demolition.

She said she has through September to be out of the old house, which will give her time to move, but she can start as soon as Red Brick is out. She’s hoping for next week. She hopes to be partially open in Maplewood by October.

Barron said she’ll be looking for volunteers to move books, and is looking for someone with a pickup truck to move some small things right now. She said she plans on raising some funds with an online crowd-sourcing site.

She wants everyone to know the store is still open at 9719 Manchester Road. The new location is at 7352 Manchester Road.

Barron went to the new location over the weekend to put up the signs.

“We were there five minutes and we must have had 25 people show up to talk to us who were all excited and asking us questions,” she said. “We went and talked to some of the businesses. It was really fun.”

One question mark is if Blake, the bookstore cat, should move with the store.

“We’re on the fence about what we’re going to do with the cat,” she said.
