Urban Chestnut Brewing Grove Expansion: 3 Miles From Maplewood

The St. Louis craft brewers new space will be bigger than Schlafly Bottleworks.

St. Louis beer fans have likely heard the good news already--Urban Chestnut will be able to dramatically increase their barrel production with a new craft brewery in The Grove.

They are investing $10 million into the former Renard Paper Co. building at 4465 Manchester Ave., St. Louis Business-Journal reports. An opening is not slated until early 2014, according to the report.

Urban Chestnut has been open just two years, according to our partners at FOX2.

When finished, the new space will be the largest craft brewery in the St. Louis area--an honor currently held by Maplewood's Schlafly Bottleworks, St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports. It will allow Urban Chestnut to produce at least 15,000 additional barrels of beer per year, according to the report.

The company's told St. Louis Public Radio that, like Schlafly, they are "dedicated to the evolution of St. Louis as a craft beer destination."

Beer fans: will you stand by Schlafly, or do you think there is plenty of room in St. Louis for some friendly (and tasty) competition? Tell us in the comments.
