VIDEO: Maplewood Coffee Crawl Brings Buzz to Local Businesses

The second-annual Maplewood Coffee Crawl featured self-guided tours of local businesses, which offered tastings, treats, demonstrations and recipes.

Local business owners involved in Saturday's Maplewood Coffee Crawl are calling the event a success based on the spike in attendance over last year. This is the second year for the event.

Attendees said the crawl offered them a way to discover new venues in the area. Participating businesses included: Cheryl's Herbs; Foundation Grounds; Kakao Chocolate; Schlafly; Stone Spiral Coffee & Curios; the Turner Center for the Arts; and Vom Fass.

"I don't know if we would have come in [to Vom Fass] and checked out all the things and tasted all the different samples unless this coffee crawl was going on," said Lindsey Roy.  "We tend to frequent some of the other places, but these are new for us, so we really like it."

Other attendees highlighted the importance of events like the coffee crawl in building community in Maplewood.

"It's a fun way to get to know small neighborhoods and see people that you may never have been able to meet before," said Catherine Neville.

For Ingrid Petres at Cheryl's Herbs, the event brought in more business than she is used to seeing on an average Saturday.

"We were prepared, but we were definitely a little surprised with the turnout," Petres said.  "It's so fun to be part of a community like that."
