World Series Trophy Stops in Maplewood

Cardinals fans came to have their photo taken with the prize.

Cardinals fans at the store in Maplewood Commons didn’t seem to mind that the Commissioner's Trophy, also known as the World Series Trophy, had been visited by 16,200 fans before them.

The trophy is almost finished with its tour around the St. Louis area. It’s made 50 stops.

“It was the closest location to our house. We came right over,” Pat Conley, of Rock Hill said. He brought his three kids along.

Nathan Barger of Maplewood had just recently traded out his old Cardinals T-shirt (Albert Pujols), and was wearing his new David Freese shirt for the event.

The trophy stands about 24 inches tall and weighs 30 pounds, though no visitors are allowed to lift or touch it. The trophy has its own handlers, who only touch it with white cotton gloves. It’s valued at $15,000.

They’re happy to lift it to show that the bottom is engraved with the St. Louis Cardinals. They’ll also take a photo for you, looking down the middle, showing all 30 gold-plated flags.
