The old Globe Drug buildings were recently purchased, and its newest tenant has big plans for this space that includes a mix of retail and warehouse use.

U-Haul Corporation purchased the two buildings at 418 S. Tucker Blvd. for $3.1 million.  Built by shoe manufacturer Endicott Johnson Company in 1915 and 1923, the buildings total 272,000-square-feet with one having five stories and the other three stories.  The Globe Drug buildings are listed on the National Historic Registry.  Globe Drug, an independent pharmacy and general store, was founded in 1939.

The opening of this St. Louis facility will be the 27th U-Haul center in Missouri.  U-Haul plans to continue operations of the parking garage, which holds 100 cars.  The five-story building will be used as a storage facility, and the three-story building will house the retail showroom for selling boxes and packaging, as well as a vehicle rental service.  The company plans to move in late April once renovations have taken place.

Upon opening of the center "we plan to celebrate the history of this historic building," said Steve Langford, Marketing Company President of U-Haul Company of Saint Louis.
