At the corner of Gravois and Heege sat a worn down and dated self serve car wash for the last 20 years that served a purpose but offered zero employment opportunities outside of the owner doing a little housekeeping and changing a few light bulbs.

It seems to be an unusual occurrence with the past economic challenges, but on September 10, 2013 SharpShooter Indoor Shooting Range and Training Center at 8035 Gravois Road in Affton opened for business without financial support, tax credits or funding from the county/ state.

St. Louis County and Councilmen Steve Stanger worked to assist in rerouting the corner of Heege and Gravois all paid for by Sharp Shooters Indoor Shooting Range.

“The Range needed reasonable access from Gravois Road to have a chance at being successful”.

Two and three quarters of a million dollars ($2,750,000.00) went into this project financed by a Concord Bank, a small business itself as an independent bank located in South County. The Range is the largest indoor shooting range in Missouri with state of the art target shooting and ventilation equipment. The amenities are endless from very wide 4 foot lanes for more comfortable shooting and training experience. Targets that move for more challenging shooting and law enforcement training.

The new state of the art facility features 20 wide shooting lanes with ballistic protective stalls and digital retrieval systems.  The all steel total containment bullet trap at Sharpshooter is the dominant industry standard for modern heavy-duty steel bullet traps which allow our guests to shoot long guns up to 50 BMG. The ventilation equipment exceeds OSHA clean air quality standards, replaces the air in the building every 60 seconds at a cost of $750,000 for the equipment.

There is a daily smoked meat BBQ 60 seat fast casual restaurant with great deck for dining. There are lockers throughout the building to store your firearms and flat screen TVs included in the amenity package added to the multi-million dollar project. Corporate team building and bachelor parties were already being scheduled before the doors were open to the public.

There are two training class rooms that Larry Bruns, the Firearms Training Director, FBI Special Agent of 25 years retired to enjoy what he enjoys best – training.  His humble list of certifications over the 25 years fills the page. Larry leads a team of five other trained certified experts in private security certification, professional law enforcement training, fire arms safety, shooting skills and Conceal and Carry instruction. Added value to the Conceal and Carry classes are expert training with fresh smoked meat lunch because people learn better when they are not hungry and they are surely not hungry after eating at Sharpshooter Pit and Grill.

This premier entertainment and training venue is already feeling success with Conceal and Carry Classes. The first ladies night was very popular in the range while the men watched football on Monday night.
