Maplewood Library to finish construction
Dear Neighbors,
The members of the Board of the Maplewood Public Library would like to take this opportunity to review with you the library’s phases of construction, and more importantly, to thank you for your patience and understanding during this time.
Not long after the new location of the Maplewood Public Library opened in 2007, its lower level flooded following a rainstorm. There have been three other major and countless minor floods since then, and it did not take long to determine the problem: the library’s foundation had not been properly waterproofed during the renovation.

The contractor was determined to “fix” this problem without a plan, so when he began excavating, the library had the work stopped until a plan could be developed. On its own, the library hired consultants to conduct testing and research; a workable plan was created and the contractor was told the work could start. He initially delayed resuming the work and then, in October 2011, he informed the library he would not continue the work. The library had the original contractor remove his construction trailer and we began working on finding a new contractor.
This summer, 2013, with a working plan in hand, another contractor will begin and the construction repairs that the original contractor left unfinished will finally be completed.

Again, we thank you for your patience during this time and for your support of the Maplewood Public Library.
Sincerely,
