Week 4 the Contemporary

The Contemporary or Postmodernist style home is a complete breakaway from all previously known architectural styles. It is known for its simple lines and total lack of ornamentation using the roof line to create its statement either in layers or one or two straight lines.  These contemporary homes are not designed for beauty but rather for simplistic living with large irregular windows, a combination of different building materials, one or more levels sometimes with exposed beams and designed to more or less blend into its landscape.

This style of architecture was used starting in the 1950s but have been used in greater amounts in the 1960’s-1970’s were it spread to Europe and the rest of the world. Contemporary architectural styles are still used today and have evolved into larger more elaborate homes which still incorporate simplistic lines.

Next Friday's blog will be the Craftsman.
