A Tribute to our First Responders

A photographic tribute to Maplewood's finest, the first responders.

Dear Reader,

My last blog of the year is a tribute to our first responders.  We owe a deep debt to those who make our lives safer as they carry out their often dangerous jobs.  Fires, unsavory characters and traffic accidents are business as usual for these fine people.  Not one of them should also have to face the threat of powerful firearms in the course of their daily duties.

No person of conscience should tolerate the sort of slaughter that happens regularly in this country due to the easy availability of firearms.  Increasing the number of firearms is madness.  A ban on assault rifles and large magazines is a good and necessary start but won’t change much.  The hindrances on government agencies that can make a difference such as the ATF and CDC should be removed.

As long as the most dangerous weapons of all, semi-automatic handguns, are freely available we will continue to be plagued by horrendous tragedies.  Let your legislators know we’ve had enough.  The change must start immediately.

Sincerely, Doug Houser
